Working towards my goal of starting a new career in Cybersecurity has been far more exciting than I could have ever imagined. Utilizing Cisco’s Networking Academy and TryHackMe, amongst other great resources, has been key in my self-taught approach to learning. Logging hundreds of hours with both formal and hands-on training has helped prepare me for the next step.

One of the hardest things for me when first starting out was trying to understand which path to go down for certifications. However, both Cisco and CompTIA are now obtainable in the near future thanks to Packet-Tracer with Cisco and Attackbox Sandboxes on TryHackMe. Not to mention all the rabbit holes along the way, such as rooting cell phones and running custom ROMs, or making this website.

TryHackMe

TryHackMe has played a huge part in getting me to this point. Coming into the IT field with only basic knowledge, TryHackMe has provided a wealth of learning and hands-on training. After working my way up to be within the top 1 percent on the site, I have realized I have only scratched the surface. And I couldn’t be more excited to keep digging. Cisco’s Networking Academy, combined with Packet Tracer activities, really helped me grasp the concepts around networking. Having completed several learning paths and many other modules, the Cisco CLI is not so intimidating anymore. Here as well, I’ve learned just enough to know there is still so much to discover.
